Shetland
Sheepdog
Sheltie is a small
and alert sheepdog. Sheltie originates from the Shetland Isles,
where it was used as a shepherd. Today’s Sheltie is a popular
companion and family pet, and it has gained much success in the
agility and obedience trials. Sheltie is one of the most popular
dog breeds in Finland.
Shelties are intelligent, active
and easy to train. They are very willing to please their people,
loyal and sensitive to emotions. Shelties love to learn little
tricks and then perform them for their owners.
Shelties are ideal family
companions and as social dogs they also enjoy eachother’s
company. Sheltie’s size and temperament makes the breed
suitable for different people and situations. They love long
walks and excersize, and are small enough to live in the city.
Shelties are rarely aggressive, so even a male makes an easy
“first dog”.
Shelties are very attractive
looking, a beautiful head with sweet expression, and an
impressive coat. The waterproof coat is relatively easy to
maintain. The most common colors are Sable, Tricolor and Blue
Merle, all with white markings.
